Our Mission

The mission of the Salmon School Garden is to ·connect students and the community to their roots (and their food!) through garden education.

More than just planting a few vegetables, the SSG is designed to be a dynamic program, fully integrated into our community’s long-term learning environment, connecting students to their academics, their food and their community.

“Teaching kids how to feed themselves and how to live in a community responsibly is the center of an education.”

The Garden Classroom

The Garden Classroom involves students in all aspects of growing in the garden as a means of awakening their senses. Whether it is completing garden chores, creating art and poetry in the orchard, or learning math and science in the pollinator patch, each grade level and every class subject (pk-12!) has the opportunity to explore the Garden space.

The Kitchen Classroom

The purpose of the Kitchen Classroom is to create opportunities where kids can engage in hands-on lessons around food, health, and sustainability. From developing knife skills, to creating recipes and learning how to incorporate fresh food from the garden into daily food choices, the Kitchen Classroom (indoors or out in the Garden!) is a critical component to our program.
